This protected natural area established as a national park on June 12th of 1962 and declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1994, covers an area of more than 30,000 kilometers square to the borders with Guyana and Brazil and its size is one of the largest in the world. The name that is internationally known, Angel Falls, was suggested by a Venezuelan in honor of the American aviator Jimmy Angel, who in the year 1930 and feels more formally confirmed the existence and exact location of the fall in his plane to fly over and then landed on its top, giving it global impact. In the twenty first century, was one of the twenty-eight finalists in the selection of the seven natural wonders of the world.
Angel Falls is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Venezuela, but even today, a trip to the falls is not a simple matter, because the area is isolated by thick forest, and make navigation dangerous tepuyes air. You can reach the region through a plane flight from Caracas or Ciudad Bolivar, to arrive at a camp in Canaima. Other tourists prefer to reach the falls by more natural means, across the jungle waterways to reach the base of the jump.
In Santa Elena de Uairen, Ciudad Guayana and Ciudad Bolivar is tour operators excursions by land, water and air (airplane or helicopter) to observe the Auyantepuy and numerous waterfalls. The excursions by land and water are made from the Canaima camp and last about thirteen hours.
Angel Falls Trips take place from June to December, when the rivers are deep enough to support the wooden dugouts (canoes) used by indigenous ethnic Pemón. During the dry season (December to March) there is less water flow than what is seen in some photos. The elusive jump can not be seen on cloudy days, so visitors have no guarantee of being able to see correctly.
